Our Missions

Sandi Shetler leads our mission projects. Each month we support a different project. Some of which include:

Copley Outreach Center

Copley Outreach Center began with our members in _____.  It has grown and is now under the management of Maryann — and is also supported by ____ church. Our church supports the center with funds and donations.  We believe in the importance of caring for our neighbors.

Our Missions

Free Store

Copley Church has a Free Store open on the 1st Friday of each month from 10:00am-2:00pm for persons who may need clothing or household items.  We are in need of gently used clothing for children.

Cleveland Clinic/Akron General Hospice on Ridgewood in Copley continuously receives individually wrapped snacks for families who have a loved one in their care.

Amazing Grace

This group was founded recently by Roseanne Wagner of our congregation. It provides opportunities for the women of our church and the wider community to meet together for social support and outreach. We are actively involved in service projects, learning opportunities, craft projects, and ecumenical fellowship.

Examples of some of our meetings have included:

  •  Understanding the Ukraine situation and how we might help refugees.
  • Painting pottery.
  • Assembling Samaritan’s Purse Christmas boxes of small gifts to send to poor children overseas, many of whom have never received gifts.
  • Social events like a high tea, poetry and book readings, and a spring strawberry celebration.

Community Involvement

  • Kiwanis Flower Sale & lunch. In our church parking lot both spring and fall.
  • Local Habitat for Humanity.  We supply lunch to the building crews several times a year.
  • Boy Scout (Troop#?)
  • AA, Al Anon, and Alateen.
  • KISS QUILT GUILD is a not-for-profit group of quilters who meet monthly to support other quilters, including those learning the skill.  We have provided over 1500 masks during the beginning of Covid to Children’s Hospital and Canton Hospital,  Over 1000 Quilts of Valor were made and delivered to our Veterans, sheets are made for the Barberton Pregnancy Center, and recently we provided many quilts to Ukrainian Families who have come to the United States.
  • CUMC Quilt Patchers meet weekly to hand quilt on a classic frame.  We have quilted new quilts and loved quilt tops, one that was recently quilted was  found in grandmas stash.  The money we have made doing this quilting is donated to the church or to the Copley outreach center.
  • Music in the Circle – supplying delicious ice cream treats
  • Ever since 2003 when the U.S. went to war, Copley Church has been sending Care Packages to soldiers serving overseas in Iraq & Afghanistan as long as they are stationed there.

SOS-Valor Home

SOS–Valor Home in Akron is the only male facility in Summit County providing emergency shelter and support programs for up to 30 veterans at a time. Copley Church gives each man his own set of towels. We have also supplied pillows.

Habitat for Humanity

Copley Church has been working with the Summit County Habitat for Humanity organization for many years. We provide and deliver a lunch for the workers on a Habitat house one Saturday a month, when the housing builds are actively going on.

Helping Soldiers SOS

Since 2003, when Copley Church first began this mission to send care packages to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, the church has continued to “adopt” an active duty soldier who is known by someone in our congregation. We gather small needed luxury and necessity items and send them in care packages to that individual, as long as he/she is serving overseas.

Battered Womens Shelter

Battered Womens Shelter provides emergency shelter for women and their children. Copley Church has purchased needed  pajamas and toiletry items.

Holiday Giving

In November Copley Church members donate Acme, Aldi and Giant Eagle gift cards to families for their holiday dinners. We also provide 200 of an item requested by the inner city Open M ministry for their community holiday meals. This year we supplied 200 cake mixes. In December the congregation decorates a special Christmas tree with hats, scarves, mittens and gloves to be donated to the Harvest Home Shelter for women and children.

Our Missions

Valor Home Vets receive a New Years Eve. box filled with summer sausage, a variety of cheeses, cookies, crackers & nuts to celebrate the Holiday.

Haven of Rest, provides a shelter for the homeless men in Akron. In Dec. they have a need for warm socks which we collect in  box for them & those living on the streets.

Right now we are providing lunches for HFH, nonperishable food, bar soap & toothpaste for the Outreach Center and sets of towels for Valor Home Vets.

Harvest Home Womens’ Shelter in Akron to collect mittens, scarves and hats for women ad children.

Donate special snacks to celebrate the New Year to Vets at Valor Home.

Provide pajamas for the women and children and collect needed toiletry items for Battered Women’s Shelter.

Throughout the year we provide snacks for families with loved ones who are ill on the third Thursday of the month for Hospice on Ridgewood in Copley.
