Copley Church Hosts “Gospel of Mark” Play

Celebrated actor gives one-night performance

Copley United Methodist Church will host a one-man dramatization of the “Gospel of Mark” on Wednesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend free of charge. The acclaimed actor Geoffrey Darling will bring to life the character of the Apostle Mark.

Darling has performed in plays and television productions in London, Ireland, New Zealand, and, most recently, in Akron with the Ohio Shakespeare Festival. Copley UMC is delighted to be able to bring this gifted actor and his dynamic performance to Akron.

Darling first originated the role of Mark 20 years ago in his native New Zealand. The production powerfully interprets the stories of Jesus, from his miracles to his passion, death, and resurrection.

No prior reservations or tickets are required. The performance is free to all. A free-will offering will be collected after the performance to benefit Flat Rock Homes. Flat Rock provides round-the-clock support for persons with multi-faceted mental health issues.

For more information about the production, interested parties may call the church at 330-666-8354, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.

For Those Seeking Connection

Loneliness ends when community begins. Whether you’re new to town, starting over, or simply tired of going through life alone, this is a place where you can belong. We share meals, pray together, laugh together, and weather storms together. Growing deep roots takes time, but it starts with showing up.

You’ll find people who have walked through addiction, grief, divorce, job loss, and every kind of struggle. You’ll find people who still struggle. You’ll find grace, acceptance, and a community that believes your past doesn’t define your future. Come as you are. Doubts and all. Questions welcome. Perfection not required.

Our Mission & Vision

Sharing God’s Word in Action by Serving Our Community

Copley United Methodist Church is focused on sharing God’s word in action by serving our community. We believe in the love of God. That we are all children of God and siblings in Christ. We believe that all people are people of worth. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. And that the Bible is God’s love letter to humankind. We interpret the Word of God through a lens of love.

Jesus came to give us a glimpse into the character of God. He came to show us a better way to live. That when we show compassion to our neighbors, our world is brighter and kinder. The Holy Spirit lives within each person and is waiting to be ignited with faith. It guides, nudges and comforts us.

God created a beautiful world of abundance. And yet humankind abuses God’s world and creates inequality, polarization and despair. But the church remains an oasis of peace, a place where we can worship God and center our lives on the gifts God has given each of us.

A Place for Imperfect People

Whether you’re searching for connection, or seeking a spiritual home where you can grow deep roots, our doors are open. We’re a community of broken people who have found hope, healing, and purpose together. No masks. No pretending. Just real faith for real life.
